Facebook was one of the platforms they used to communicate with these individuals. It is important to note that José Gutiérrez Ayuso, who had a mental disability, was not involved in the financial transactions.

The siblings’ relationships with these individuals had drained their finances, leading the sisters to seek financial assistance from local individuals and informal lenders. They even approached the mayor and priest of Morata de Tajuña for help, as reported by Spain’s ABC newspaper. Mr. Hussain, the suspect, had become acquainted with the siblings during his time as a lodger in their home. He claimed that the sisters owed him a significant sum of money, which he had provided as a high-interest loan. However, they had failed to repay the loan, prompting him to commit the murders.

Amelia suffered two attacks at the hands of Mr. Hussain while he was still living in her home. The second attack occurred in February 2023 and involved the use of a hammer, resulting in Amelia requiring medical attention. Mr. Hussain was convicted and received a two-year jail sentence, along with a restraining order. Surprisingly, he was released after only seven months in September.

The police initiated their investigation after neighbors reported not seeing or hearing from the siblings for several weeks. Enrique Velilla, a local friend of the siblings, disclosed that their insistence on sending money to their alleged boyfriends had forced them to sell a property they owned in Madrid.
