Accident – Death – Obituary News : JOLIET, Ill. — An intensive investigation and manhunt are currently underway in Joliet, Illinois, after multiple individuals were tragically found dead in two residences. This investigation follows closely on the heels of a man’s death and another individual’s injury in what local Will County deputies have described as “random” shootings in Joliet Township and the City of Joliet. The Joliet Police Department is leading the investigation into the discovery of several deceased individuals within two homes on Monday, January 22, 2024. These homes are situated in the 2200 block of West Acres Road.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Romeo Nance, a 23-year-old male who should be considered dangerous and potentially armed. Police believe he could be driving a red Toyota Camry, with a license plate number of Q73 0412. As detectives and officers continue their active homicide investigation at the two homes on West Acres Road, they urge anyone with information regarding Nance’s whereabouts or the mentioned vehicle to contact the police. The authorities have not released specific details regarding the number of deceased individuals found on Monday, but they have confirmed that all victims suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

In response to this ongoing incident, the police have closed off West Acres Road between Madison Street and Springfield Avenue. Additionally, Madison Street is closed between Glenwood Avenue and Douglas Street. These closures were announced via a social media post at 1:50 p.m. on Monday and are expected to remain in effect for a significant period of time. At 3 p.m., Joliet police provided an update on their search for Nance. The license plate numbers on the vehicle believed to be driven by Nance match those seen near both shooting scenes on Sunday.

In a separate incident on Sunday, Will County deputies responded to a call at an apartment complex on Pheasant Run Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. Authorities discovered a man with a gunshot wound to the head, who unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Toyosi Bakare, was originally from Nigeria and had been residing in the United States for approximately three years. Roughly ten minutes before this fatal shooting, a 42-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 200 Block of Davis Street. Fortunately, this victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The authorities have emphasized that the victims in Sunday’s shootings are unrelated and appear to be random targets.

When questioned about the involvement of FBI special agents in the investigations, a spokesperson declined to confirm or deny their participation, citing Department of Justice policy. However, it is well-known that the FBI often assists local partners in their investigative efforts.

According to Patch and court records, Nance faced charges around a year ago for attempting to shoot a woman multiple times on Ingalls Avenue and at a residence in the 1300 block of Brentwood Place. Following a brief altercation with officers, police apprehended Nance near his residence on West Acres Road. He was subsequently charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and reckless discharge of a firearm. These charges were part of an operation known as “New Year’s Resolution.” Court documents reveal that Nance was released on a $10,000 bond, having posted 10% of the $100,000 total. Although Nance’s attorney sought a further reduction in bond, Will County prosecutors objected, and a judge denied the request. Nance reportedly attended subsequent court hearings, and the case has yet to go to trial. It remains unclear whether he still resides on West Acres Road, one of the locations currently under investigation by Will County authorities.
