The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call reporting a man attempting to enter a residence while wielding a knife. The intruder was later identified as 42-year-old Steve Lamar Goss, Jr. The caller, who remains unidentified, provided a description of Goss and his vehicle to the authorities. The caller also informed the police that their spouse and three children were hiding in a closet inside the house.

Quick Response by Law Enforcement

Deputies promptly responded to the call and initiated a brief chase to apprehend the suspect. Goss was eventually apprehended at a nearby convenience store after fleeing the scene. Prior to his arrest, Goss had driven his truck into the dining room of the targeted house in a failed attempt to break into the front door.

Mother’s Courageous Act

Inside the house, Goss discovered the mother and children hiding in a closet, which served as their safe room. In an act of bravery, the mother shot Goss in the arm. The intruder was subsequently taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital for medical treatment.

Legal Consequences for the Intruder

Following his medical treatment, Goss was booked into the Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility. He now faces four counts of attempted murder and one count of burglary. It was revealed that Goss was already out on felony bond for possession of a weapon by a felon.

Sheriff Commends the Mother’s Bravery

Sheriff Clint Walker praised the mother’s bravery during an interview with WLBT. He emphasized the importance of having an emergency plan in place and acknowledged the power of prayer in difficult situations. Walker expressed gratitude that the incident, which could have turned into a tragedy, became a testament to the family’s faith in God.
