The Los Angeles Police Department responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the area of Yucca Street and La Baig Avenue, just off the 101 Freeway and outside the First Presbyterian Church, around 1 a.m. Officers discovered Beltran suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to LAPD Detective Samuel Murillo, the victim was found deceased in the road next to his running vehicle. Surprisingly, all of Beltran’s belongings were found on him, and it did not appear that anything had been stolen.

Beltran’s family revealed that he worked as a security guard in the Studio City and Burbank areas. On the night of the incident, his shift got cancelled, so he decided to meet a friend to discuss his latest music. Beltran was passionate about music and had recorded some songs in a downtown Los Angeles studio.

“I just have no words for what happened to my brother,” expressed Nataly Beltran, the victim’s sister. She shared that Carlos often visited Yucca Street and enjoyed playing soccer against the wall. Growing up in the Hollywood area, Carlos attended Hollywood High School. Nataly added, “This street just means so much, so much, and now it’s like a nightmare to walk through here, just imagining that my brother was left in the street.”

Nataly reminisced about her brother always carrying a notebook and pen, constantly writing and freestyling. Even after moving to Encino, Carlos never stopped writing songs about Hollywood, his hometown.

“I want his music to be heard,” Nataly emphasized. “That’s all he ever wanted.”

Beltran was remembered by loved ones as a kind and compassionate man who had no involvement in gangs. Nataly stated, “I can’t think of a single person that would want that, that had problems or beef with my brother out here in these streets. He was very known, very loved.”

The LAPD’s Hollywood Division is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or online at L.A. Crime Stoppers.
