48-Year-Old Man Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping in Fairfield

The Fairfield Police Department made an arrest last week in connection with an attempted kidnapping incident. A 48-year-old man, identified as Wilson Toia, was taken into custody after admitting to attempting to lure a young girl into his vehicle.

The incident occurred on January 18th at around 8:45 a.m. when a 13-year-old girl was walking alone near the intersection of Kidder Avenue and San Rafael Street. The man repeatedly tried to convince the girl to get into his vehicle.

Fortunately, a vigilant motorist noticed the suspicious interaction and approached the girl to inquire about her relationship with the man. Concerned for the girl’s safety, the motorist offered to drive her to school, to which she agreed.

Once they arrived at the school, the student promptly informed a teacher about what had transpired. The School Resource Officer was immediately notified, and a joint investigation was launched with the assistance of a Fairfield detective.

In an effort to gather more evidence, the investigators surveyed the area where the incident took place. Although they found several video surveillance cameras that captured the suspect’s vehicle, the license plate was not visible in the footage.

During the canvassing, the department’s dispatcher utilized the Flock Safety System and the city’s CCTV footage to obtain the suspect’s license plate number. The vehicle was eventually located parked in the 1900 Block of Kidder Ave.

Several hours later, officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description getting into the vehicle. The vehicle was then pulled over on East Tabor Ave, and the suspect, identified as Wilson Toia, was apprehended.

While in custody, Toia admitted to contacting the child and attempting to lure her into his car. As a result, he was booked into the Solano County Jail on charges of attempted kidnapping, communicating with a minor with the intent to kidnap, and annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18. Additionally, Toia was cited for driving with a suspended license.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and the Fairfield Police Department encourages anyone with relevant information to come forward. If you have any information, please contact the Fairfield Police Department at (707) 428-7300.
