New Details Emerge After Recovery of Body from Car in Croc-Infested Waters in Northern Territory

New details have emerged after the body of a man was recovered last week from a car that plunged into crocodile-infested waters at Dundee Downs in the Northern Territory.

According to reports from the Northern Territory Police, the incident occurred at Six Pack Creek Boat Ramp, located approximately 123km southwest of Darwin. The car, carrying two individuals, crashed into the water at around 4.30pm on Thursday, January 18.

Fortunately, one of the occupants managed to escape the sinking vehicle before it submerged, sustaining only minor injuries. However, the other person remained trapped inside.

The recovery operation was challenging due to the presence of saltwater crocodiles in the area. In order to ensure the safety of those involved, several crocodiles had to be killed during the operation, as stated by Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner.

On Friday evening, the police successfully retrieved the body of a 20-year-old man from the submerged car. The victim has now been formally identified as a resident of Darwin.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner also mentioned that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash is ongoing. Initial findings suggest that the deceased was the driver and that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. A comprehensive report is currently being prepared for the coroner.

The car sustained significant damage from the crash before it entered the water, according to the police. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact the police.
