Archdale Man Arrested for Stealing School Bus and Leading Police on a Chase

WINSTON-SALEM, Jan. 22 — In a shocking incident, a 42-year-old Archdale man has been apprehended and charged with stealing a school bus, which led to a high-speed chase with the Winston-Salem Police Department. The pursuit eventually concluded with the bus crashing into a field.

The theft occurred at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14. Swiftly responding to the crime, officers from the Winston-Salem Police Department spotted the stolen bus on Peters Creek Parkway. In an attempt to halt the vehicle, a traffic stop was initiated. However, the driver, later identified as Joseph Spainhour, refused to comply and recklessly drove over the median, endangering oncoming traffic.

Despite the police’s pursuit, Spainhour managed to steer the stolen bus for another mile before it ultimately collided with a field. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash, providing some relief amidst the chaotic circumstances.

Following the incident, Joseph Spainhour was taken into custody and now faces several charges, including felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony fleeing to elude, and numerous other violations. The motive behind Spainhour’s decision to target a school bus remains unclear, as the police have yet to disclose any potential reasons for his actions.
