“34-Year-Old Christian Abor Sentenced to Eight Years Imprisonment for Defiling Seven-Year-Old Pupil in Volta Region”

Christian Abor, a 34-year-old man, has been handed an eight-year prison sentence with hard labour by the Sogakope Circuit Court in the Volta Region of Ghana. The sentencing comes as a result of Abor’s conviction for defiling a seven-year-old class one pupil in the Akatsi South Municipality.

The accused, Christian Abor, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him during his appearance at the Sogakope Circuit Court.

During the trial, Detective Chief Inspector Joseph Ajongbah presented the case to the Court, which was presided over by Mr. Joseph Mark Ali. According to Ajongbah, the convict, a resident of Deti New Town, engaged in the heinous act with the young victim, who was a pupil in Akatsi.

According to Chief Inspector Ajongbah, the incident occurred on June 13, 2023, around 17:00 hours. The victim, a young boy, was sent on an errand by his mother to buy palm oil. It was during this time that he encountered the accused.

Ajongbah further explained that after a brief interaction with the victim, Christian Abor left. However, on the victim’s way back home, he met Abor again, who emerged from a nearby cassava farm.

“Under the pretense of offering him a gift, the convict lured the victim to a nearby uncompleted building. Once inside, he ordered the young boy to undress and forcibly subjected him to anal sex,” said Chief Inspector Ajongbah.

The incident was reported to the Akatsi police by the victim on June 14, leading to the arrest of Christian Abor. The case was then brought before Judge Mark Joseph Ali at the Sogakope Circuit Court.

After a thorough trial, Judge Mark Joseph Ali found the accused, Christian Abor, guilty of the charges brought against him. Consequently, Abor was convicted and sentenced to a prison term.

The charges against Christian Abor included defilement of a child under 16 years, specifically sodomy. These charges are in violation of Section 101(2) of Act 29/60, as amended by Act 554, Section 11 of the Criminal Code.
