Charges and Allegations

Byron Burkhart is facing multiple charges, including murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting at an occupied vehicle, and five counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. Prosecutors have also alleged that Burkhart personally used a handgun in the commission of the crime.

Court Proceedings and Bail

During his arraignment at the Antelope Valley Courthouse, the judge scheduled a preliminary hearing for February 15th. If convicted, Burkhart could face a maximum sentence of life in prison. Currently, he is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.

Second Suspect

A second suspect, 27-year-old Alexandria Gentile, who was arrested in connection with the shooting, was not charged. Jail records indicate that she has been released from custody. Prosecutors have identified Gentile as Burkhart’s girlfriend.

The Tragic Incident

The fatal shooting took place on December 15th at around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Sierra Highway and East Avenue J. According to officials, a mother and father were driving with their 4-year-old son in the backseat when Burkhart cut them off and started chasing them. When the family slowed down, Burkhart pulled up alongside their car and began shooting, ultimately hitting and killing 4-year-old Gor Adamyan.

The District Attorney’s Office stated that eight shots were fired during the incident. Gor Adamyan, who was sitting in the back seat, sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body. Despite the parents’ immediate efforts to rush him to the hospital, the young boy tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation and Arrest

Authorities have revealed that a camera inside the victims’ vehicle captured images of the suspect’s license plate. Sheriff’s officials quickly located the suspects’ vehicle in the vicinity of the shooting and apprehended both Burkhart and Gentile on suspicion of murder.

Clarification on Previous Reports

The District Attorney’s Office has denied reports suggesting that Burkhart had recently been booked on suspicion of a weapons violation but was released under the county’s zero-bail policy. They have stated that these reports are false.

This tragic incident has shaken the Lancaster community and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety. The case will continue to be closely monitored as it progresses through the legal system, offering hope for justice for the grieving family and the wider community.
