Virginia State Police Seek Public Help to Identify Hit-and-Run Victim in Augusta County

Authorities from the Virginia State Police are reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying a victim involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in Augusta County. The accident claimed the life of a pedestrian on Saturday morning.

According to the police, the unfortunate individual was fatally struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the southbound lanes of I-81 at mile marker 210.

The victim is described as a middle-aged white man, bearing a distinctive tattoo on his right leg. He was dressed in black attire, donning a hoodie with the word “Missouri” emblazoned on it. Additionally, he was wearing white sneakers and carrying a backpack at the time of the incident, as per the authorities.

After a thorough investigation, law enforcement officials have identified a 26-year-old man as the driver responsible for the hit-and-run incident. He has been charged with one count of hit-and-run and one count of involuntary manslaughter.

Following the accident, the victim’s remains were promptly sent to the Office of the Medical Examiner for further examination and autopsy.
