Sunday Marks Two-Year Anniversary of Elk Grove Police Officer Tyler Lenehan’s Tragic Death

Sunday, [Date], marked a solemn occasion as it has been two years since the untimely passing of Elk Grove police officer Tyler Lenehan. Officer Lenehan tragically lost his life after being struck by a suspected DUI driver. On that fateful day, Lenehan was riding his motorcycle along southbound Highway 99, en route to work, when a driver, traveling on the wrong side of the road, collided with him. The driver responsible for the accident, identified as 31-year-old Jermain J. Walton, was apprehended and arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Walton was subsequently booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple felony DUI-related charges. Disturbingly, Sacramento County Court records reveal that Walton had previously faced a DUI charge in 2018, to which he pled no contest. As a result, he received informal probation.

Reflecting on the tragic incident, Sgt. Jason Jimenez expressed the lasting impact it had on the law enforcement community. He stated, “It feels like just yesterday when we received the call about Officer Lenehan’s injuries. It’s never an easy call, and it immediately brings to mind his family and all of us who worked alongside him. It was a tough day, one that none of us will ever forget.”

Officer Lenehan is survived by his wife and two children. Among those close to him, he was affectionately known as “Ty.” Former Elk Grove Police Department Chief Timothy Albright fondly remembered Lenehan, highlighting his selflessness and love for others. Albright said, “Ty will always be remembered for a number of things – his selfless approach to everything and everybody, his infectious smile, his pure heart, and his unwavering love. He loved his God, his family, and his service.”

On the occasion of the two-year anniversary of Officer Lenehan’s passing, the Elk Grove police planned to gather with Lenehan’s family to reflect on cherished memories of Ty. Additionally, in January, the department will collaborate with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to honor Lenehan’s memory by wearing patches in his honor.
