Accident – death – Obituary News : Arrested Illegal Arms Dealer in Rajasthan Revealed to be Murder Suspect

An illegal arms dealer apprehended by the Udaipur police’s special task force on Sunday turned out to be a fugitive accused of murdering a woman from Rajsamand two years ago. The suspect, identified as Rahul Raj Chaturvedi, was arrested in Udaipur’s Pratap Nagar area, where authorities also seized a pistol. However, during the investigation, it was discovered that Chaturvedi had been on the run due to an elopement case from four years ago. Shockingly, he confessed to the murder of the woman during the interrogation, according to district police superintendent Bhuvan Bhushan.

The accused, a 40-year-old resident of Udaipur’s Keshav Nagar, had eloped with a married woman named Bhanu Priya Goswami from Rajsamand in 2019. A complaint was filed against Chaturvedi by one of the woman’s relatives, but the police were unable to locate him. The couple had been residing in rented accommodation in the Ghatna area. It was revealed that Chaturvedi smothered Goswami to death in 2021 following a heated argument.

In a chilling twist, it was disclosed that Chaturvedi meticulously planned the disposal of the body by studying over 1,300 episodes of a popular crime television series. Subsequently, he dumped the woman’s remains into a drum and filled it with a mixture of cement and chemicals to prevent any odors. The drum remained in the room for years, undetected by anyone except the accused and his landlord.

However, in 2022, the landlord discovered the murder when the mixture leaked from the drum. Instead of reporting the incident, the landlord agreed to assist Chaturvedi in secretly cremating the body and disposing of the mortal remains into a nearby water body. This macabre secret remained hidden until Chaturvedi’s recent arrest.

The Udaipur police received a tip-off regarding Chaturvedi’s involvement in an illegal weapons deal, leading to his arrest at a check post in the area. Upon bringing him to the Dhanmandi police station, a constable who had previously been posted in Rajsamand during the elopement case identified Chaturvedi as the suspect. Subsequent investigations uncovered the murder as well.

The police have now filed a fresh case against Chaturvedi under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as 3/25 of the Arms Act. Furthermore, they are conducting an inquiry into the landlord’s potential involvement in the matter, with appropriate action to be taken following the investigation, as stated by Superintendent Bhuvan Bhushan.

This shocking turn of events has left the community reeling, highlighting the importance of thorough investigations and vigilant law enforcement. The arrest of this illegal arms dealer has not only prevented potential harm from his weapons trade but has also brought closure to the family of the murder victim. The case serves as a stark reminder of the need for continued efforts in maintaining law and order, ensuring the safety of citizens, and bringing justice to those who have been wronged..
