Lockport Man Pleads Guilty in Woodlands Mobile Home Park Shooting

Lockport, UK – A Lockport man is facing a potential 25-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to a shooting incident that occurred on February 5th in Woodlands Mobile Home Park.

Thomas L. McDowell, 20, entered a guilty plea for assault in front of Niagara County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek on Monday. The plea means McDowell could be sentenced to between five and 25 years in state prison, followed by two to five years of supervision upon release.

Initially, McDowell faced charges of attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, burglary, and assault in relation to the incident.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian Seaman explained that the assault charge McDowell pleaded guilty to carries the same sentence as an attempted murder charge. He stated, “This allows the judge to determine an appropriate sentence for this very violent conduct.”

McDowell was arrested shortly after the shooting when staff at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center alerted police that he was being treated for a stab wound and was identified as the shooting suspect. After receiving treatment for his wound at Erie County Medical Center, he was taken into custody.

Robert Fogg, McDowell’s attorney, revealed that McDowell had been stabbed in the back by an unidentified female during the same altercation in which he shot the 38-year-old victim. However, accounts of the incident differ among the involved parties regarding whether McDowell shot before or after being stabbed.
