Columbia, S.C. – The Columbia Police Department has made significant progress in a custodial interference investigation involving a 2-year-old girl. Two females, Tiffany Alexander (41) and her daughter Janiyah Williams (23), have been arrested and are now facing multiple charges, including Custodial Interference, Burglary–First Degree, and Assault–First Degree.

The incident took place on Hatfield Street, where Alexander and Williams allegedly forced their way into a home and assaulted two individuals, who are the grandparents of the child. The victims sustained injuries and received medical treatment. Alexander, identified as the biological mother of the 2-year-old, does not have custody rights.

On Friday evening, the Columbia Police Department responded to an emergency disturbance call involving a weapon. Upon arrival at the scene, officers were informed about the forced removal of the child, prompting an upgrade in the call’s severity. The grandparents provided a description of the suspects’ getaway vehicle, leading the CPD to relay the information to the State Fusion Center for the issuance of an Amber Alert.

Through collaboration with Columbia-Richland 9-1-1 dispatchers and SLED Agents, the suspects’ exact location was determined as they fled with the child to Texas. Out-of-state law enforcement was alerted, and the Georgia State Patrol successfully intercepted and stopped the suspects on Interstate 85 in Georgia. Both suspects, along with the child, were found in the vehicle. They were taken into custody and are currently awaiting extradition to Columbia.

Fortunately, the child was found in good health and unharmed. The Georgia Department of Family and Children Services temporarily took custody of the child until arrangements could be made for her safe return to Columbia.

The Columbia Police Department emphasizes its commitment to protecting the welfare of children and urges the public to report any suspicious activities related to custodial interference. The child is now back home with her guardians, safe and sound.
