A 20-year-old male suspect is currently in custody after allegedly leading Lubbock County sheriff’s deputies on a brief pursuit before crashing his vehicle in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to an official statement released by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy on patrol observed a group of cars engaging in street racing activities near the intersection of Interstate 27 and Marsha Sharp Freeway at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday. The deputy attempted to halt one of the drivers, later identified as 20-year-old Joshua Mungro. However, Mungro quickly accelerated and evaded the deputy in his car.

A pursuit was initiated by the deputy, which ultimately came to an end when Mungro’s vehicle veered off the road and collided with a ditch near I-27 and Municipal Drive, as stated by the LCSO. Following a medical evaluation conducted by EMS, Mungro was taken into custody and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

The charges brought against Mungro include evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, reckless driving, and racing on a highway. As of Monday afternoon, he remains in custody with a combined bond amounting to $4,000.
