Woman Accused of Killing Boyfriend Captured by Raleigh Police

MACCLESFIELD, N.C. (WNCN) – The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office reported on Saturday morning that Raleigh police apprehended a woman accused of murdering her boyfriend late Friday night or early Saturday.

Deputies Respond to Welfare Check

On Thursday, deputies received a request to conduct a welfare check at a residence along N.C. 124 West in Macclesfield. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the lifeless body of a man inside the home, who had been deceased for an extended period, as confirmed by a news release issued by the sheriff’s office.

Investigation Reveals Assault as Cause of Death

Authorities investigating the incident determined that the victim, identified as 60-year-old Alexander Atkinson, died as a result of an assault. Detectives further discovered that Atkinson’s girlfriend, Vicki Renee Russell, continued to utilize his credit card and had been operating his truck, according to the sheriff’s office.

Fugitive Spotted in Raleigh Area

As of Friday morning, deputies confirmed that Russell was believed to be in the Raleigh area. She was wanted on warrants for first-degree murder, as announced by the sheriff’s office.

Suspect Apprehended by Raleigh Police

Providing an update on Saturday morning, the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that Vicki Renee Russell was taken into custody by the Raleigh Police Department. She is currently being held without bond at the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
