Accident – death – Obituary News : La Pine Woman Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 97

A tragic accident on Friday afternoon claimed the life of a La Pine woman in Klamath County. The Oregon State Police reported that the incident occurred around 12:21 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 31.

According to authorities, an 87-year-old driver from Fort Rock was operating a southbound Chevy Trail Blazer and was in the left turn lane. The driver attempted to make a turn onto Highway 31 when a northbound Dodge Dart, driven by a 22-year-old La Pine resident, collided with the Trail Blazer.

Sadly, 77-year-old Joanne Lee Banzer, a passenger in the Trail Blazer, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The Oregon State Police did not provide information regarding any citations related to the incident. They also stated that road conditions did not appear to be a contributing factor.

Following the crash, the highway was closed for approximately 3 and a half hours to facilitate the investigation.
