Joliet Man Arrested and Charged After Stabbing Incident at Route 30 Laundromat

JOLIET, IL — A 26-year-old Joliet man has been apprehended and is currently held in the Will County Jail following a stabbing incident that took place on Saturday afternoon at the Route 30 Laundromat located at 905 Plainfield Road, according to Joliet police.

The suspect, identified as Oscar Alonso Ortiz, is facing multiple charges, including three counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, as stated in a press release issued on Sunday.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English provided details of the incident that occurred around 12:45 p.m. at the Route 30 Laundromat. Once officers were alerted about the stabbing, the following events unfolded:

  • An officer spotted a young man holding a knife in the laundromat parking lot. Upon command, the male dropped the knife and was apprehended without any resistance. The individual was identified as Alonso Ortiz, and the knife used in the attack was recovered by Joliet police.
  • Further investigation revealed that an 18-year-old male had been stabbed in the chest while outside of the laundromat. The victim had already been transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center in a private vehicle.
  • According to English, it is believed that Alonso Ortiz was the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s girlfriend and that he arrived at the laundromat and attacked the victim with the knife.
  • At Ascension St Joseph Medical Center, it was determined that the victim sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound to the chest.

Joliet police assured the public that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing danger to the community.
