Isaac Zimmern Identified as Fourth Casualty in Half Moon Bay Plane Crash
HALF MOON BAY, CALIFORNIA – Isaac Zimmern, 27, the son of a prominent Zoom executive, has been identified as the fourth casualty in the tragic plane crash near Half Moon Bay on January 14. The incident, which claimed the lives of Zimmern, his girlfriend Emma Willmer-Shiles, and two others, has left the community in shock and mourning.
Zimmern and Willmer-Shiles, both 27, were childhood sweethearts and residents of San Francisco. They had been together for over a decade, sharing a deep bond and a promising future. The couple’s lives were cut short when their single-engine, four-seater Cozy MK IV aircraft plunged into the sea, piloted by Lochie Ferrier, an Australian experimental plane enthusiast, and his fiancée Cassidy Petit, a venture capitalist.
The search and rescue efforts, led by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, are still ongoing to locate the bodies of the other three individuals involved in the crash. So far, only the body of Willmer-Shiles has been recovered by a fishing trawler earlier this week, adding to the heartbreak and grief of their loved ones.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Zimmern attended Lowell High School, graduating in 2014. He went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in economics with a focus on computer and data science at the University of California, Santa Cruz, which he successfully completed in 2020.
In addition to his academic achievements, Zimmern gained valuable experience during his four-year tenure as a game operations lead for the Santa Cruz Warriors, the G-League team affiliated with the Golden State Warriors. His dedication and passion for sports were evident in his contributions to the team, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and friends.
Tragic Loss of Lochie Ferrier and Cassidy Petit
The devastating plane crash also claimed the lives of Lochie Ferrier and Cassidy Petit, a couple deeply in love and full of dreams for their future together. Ferrier, an MIT graduate with a degree in aeronautical engineering, was known in the “experimental aircraft” community for his expertise and passion for aviation.
After working at Beta Technologies, a company specializing in electric planes, Ferrier relocated to California to join Magpie Aviation in Hayward, a firm focused on electric aircraft. His dedication to innovation and progress in the aviation industry was commendable, and his loss is deeply felt by his colleagues and peers.
Cassidy Petit, a venture capitalist at RH Capital with a focus on reproductive and maternal health, brought her own unique passion and expertise to the world. The couple shared a love for outdoor activities, enjoying climbing, surfing, snorkeling, hiking, and skiing. Their adventurous spirits and zest for life were evident in their social media posts, capturing moments of joy and exploration.
Heartbreaking footage emerged this week, showing parts of the wreckage of the Cozy Mark IV aircraft washed up on the shore. The sight serves as a painful reminder of the lives lost and the tragedy that befell these young individuals.
