Suspect Dead and Five Hospitalized After Police Pursuit Ends in Marion Crash

MARION, Ohio (WSYX) — A suspect tragically lost his life in a devastating crash that occurred following a police pursuit in Marion on Saturday night. The incident left five others injured, who were subsequently rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Police Respond to Fight on East Mark Street

Authorities swiftly reacted to a report of a violent altercation on East Mark Street shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday. In the midst of the chaos, a suspect was spotted fleeing the scene in a hasty manner.

Pursuit Ends in Tragic Crash

In their relentless pursuit, the police chased after the suspect onto East Fairground Street. However, the pursuit was abruptly terminated just over 30 seconds later, as the suspect collided with another vehicle. The impact sent the suspect’s car careening off the road, crashing into a pole and a tree.

Fatalities and Injuries

The suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Zachary Harter, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A juvenile passenger who was also in the suspect’s vehicle was initially taken to Marion General Hospital for immediate medical attention. Subsequently, the juvenile was transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for further specialized care.

Moreover, three individuals who were in the vehicle struck by the suspect’s reckless actions were promptly transported to Marion General Hospital to receive medical treatment for their injuries.

Additionally, a woman who sustained injuries during the initial altercation on East Mark Street was expeditiously taken to Marion General Hospital for immediate medical attention.
