Man Loses Both Legs While Resisting Snatching Attempt at Sarai Rohilla Railway Station

New Delhi, India – A 55-year-old man lost both his legs in a tragic incident at Sarai Rohilla Railway Station. The victim, identified as Gangji, was returning to Delhi with his family when a snatching attempt took a disastrous turn. The incident occurred on January 17, and the police have apprehended a juvenile in connection with the case.

Gangji, a resident of Shastri Nagar, was traveling with his wife, son, and granddaughter from their native place in Gujarat. As the train slowed down near Dayabasti, the family started placing their luggage at the door for a quick exit. It was during this time that a jacket-clad minor approached Gangji and attempted to snatch his bag.

Despite Gangji’s objections, the boy forcefully pulled at the bag, causing him to lose his balance and fall onto the tracks. Tragically, Gangji’s legs got stuck under the train’s wheels. The accused fled the scene, leaving the bag behind. Gangji’s wife screamed for help, and some passengers managed to pull the emergency chain, bringing the train to a halt.

Gangji’s son, Kamal, who was in the washroom at the time of the incident, was informed about what had happened upon his return. He immediately alerted his elder brother and other relatives. Kamal expressed disappointment that no one offered immediate help to his injured father, stating that the delay in receiving medical assistance could have proved fatal.

The police have registered a case under Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.

This incident highlights the need for increased safety measures at railway stations and the importance of bystander assistance during emergencies. Gangji’s tragic ordeal serves as a reminder for everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly.

Authorities are working to ensure that the juvenile responsible for the snatching attempt faces appropriate legal consequences.
