54-Year-Old Man Arrested After Slow-Speed Chase in Stolen Wheel Loader

The incident took place in Painesville, which is located about 30 miles northeast of Cleveland.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the county’s Engineer’s Office in response to a report of a suspicious person. Upon arriving at the scene shortly after 5 a.m., deputies discovered a 54-year-old man inside the property’s salt dome.

To their surprise, the man made off with a Case 721D wheel loader, prompting deputies to initiate a pursuit. Despite their attempts to pull the suspect over, he refused to stop, leading to a slow-speed chase that never exceeded 10 miles per hour, as stated in a press release by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The situation became even more challenging when an attempt to use a tire deflation device on the stolen vehicle was unsuccessful due to the thickness of the tires.

The pursuit eventually made its way through a residential area, where Amberlynn White-Finney captured a video of the wheel loader and the numerous deputies and officers involved passing by her home. After approximately three and a half miles on the run, the 54-year-old suspect finally decided to stop near an elementary school. However, he still refused to exit the stolen vehicle.
