New Video Captures Dramatic Emergency Landing on Loudoun County Highway

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. –

A new video obtained exclusively by FOX 5 reveals the harrowing moments when a single-engine Cessna 208 Caravan made an emergency landing on the busy Loudoun County Parkway in Virginia. The incident occurred on a Friday afternoon as the plane, operated by Southern Airways, was en route from Dulles to Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The video footage, captured by a passenger, provides a unique perspective of the events leading up to the emergency landing and the immediate aftermath.

Despite the gravity of the situation, all seven individuals aboard the aircraft, including two pilots and five passengers, managed to safely exit the plane without sustaining any physical injuries. The landing itself occurred just moments after the aircraft had taken off.

Passengers can be seen in the video calmly and efficiently disembarking from the plane, which had come to rest on the southbound lanes of the Loudoun County Parkway near the airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated an active investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the emergency landing. In the video, a passenger is heard asking the co-pilot about the events leading up to the incident.

“We started losing power, and we tried to turn back to the runway, but there was no way to make it. We lost power,” the co-pilot explained.

Further details regarding the investigation are yet to be disclosed. However, the pilot, 27-year-old Ahmed Awais from Florida, and the co-pilot have received commendations from the CEO of Southern Airways, Stan Little.

In a statement provided to the Associated Press, CEO Stan Little expressed relief over the absence of injuries, stating, “We are thankful to our pilots, who acted in accordance with their training, prioritizing the safety of our passengers. We are working closely with the authorities to thoroughly investigate the situation.”
