Los Angeles Police Seek Public’s Help in Identifying Drivers Involved in Fatal Hit-and-Runs

Los Angeles police have reached out to the public, urging for their assistance in identifying the three drivers who were involved in two separate hit-and-run incidents that resulted in the deaths of two pedestrians. These tragic incidents occurred in Pacoima on January 12 and on Van Nuys Boulevard on January 13.

It is important to note that these hit-and-runs are not connected in any way.

Pacoima Hit-and-Run: $50,000 Reward Offered

The Pacoima hit-and-run took place at approximately 11:55 p.m. on San Fernando Road, near Montague Street. The incident involved a white pickup truck that was driving in the wrong direction, colliding with a 42-year-old man named Francisco Garcia, who was homeless. Garcia was thrown into another lane and subsequently hit by a gray sport-utility vehicle. Finally, a silver sedan struck him. Fortunately, a video camera captured the entire incident.

According to authorities, Francisco Garcia was seen moving after being hit by the pickup truck, eventually ending up in the northbound lane. The SUV then struck him, while the sedan, although slowing down after the impact, failed to stop at the scene.

In an effort to bring justice to this case, a reward of $50,000 has been offered for any information leading to the identification and apprehension of the driver responsible for this hit-and-run.

Van Nuys Boulevard Hit-and-Run

The second hit-and-run incident was reported at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Van Nuys Boulevard, near Valerio Street. In this case, a white pickup truck traveling southbound struck a woman who was crossing the street.

Officer Michael Sison, who is investigating this particular hit-and-run, stated, “The driver kept going southbound.” The woman, identified as 58-year-old Brenda Byrnes, was found seated on the road, using her arms to propel herself forward. Tragically, Brenda Byrnes succumbed to blunt traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead by the medical examiner’s office.

Edward Byrnes, Brenda’s brother, revealed that she had recently left him a message, which had no indication of any intention to harm herself. He clarified that Brenda was between jobs and had previously worked as a costume person for music groups on tour, including Duran Duran. Edward Byrnes also emphasized that his sister did not have any disabilities.
