New Delhi Woman Dies in Tragic Accident: Speeding Truck Driver Apprehended

Date: January 20, New Delhi

A devastating accident in Delhi claimed the life of a 39-year-old physically challenged woman after she was struck by a speeding truck. The incident unfolded near the Shamshan Ghat in Geeta Colony, prompting a massive hunt across the city to apprehend the responsible party. The accused was successfully caught by the authorities.

Police received a distress call on Thursday at the Geeta Colony police station reporting an accident involving an unidentified vehicle and a woman. The victim was rushed to the SDN hospital by a PCR van, but tragically, she was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary.

Initial investigations, including the analysis of CCTV footage near the accident site, revealed that the victim was crossing the road in a sitting posture, indicating she may have been physically challenged. The footage also showed a green dumper truck passing over her. Law enforcement officials meticulously searched the parking lots of trucks belonging to Gowar Construction Company in Shastri Park and Akshardham, physically inspecting around 150 CCTV cameras in areas including Geeta Colony Flyover, Shakarpur, Laxmi Nagar, Vikas Marg, Akshardham Temple, and Shastri Park.

This thorough search yielded a significant lead – a noticeable discrepancy in the truck’s appearance, particularly a non-functional front light and missing digits on the back of the vehicle. The offending truck, which had been used for dumping concrete and building materials, had its registration number obscured from both sides. “It is worth mentioning that the truck involved in the accident displayed these distinctive features,” added the DCP.

The truck driver, identified as Firoz and a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was successfully apprehended. During questioning, Firoz confessed to his involvement in the tragic accident, confirming the suspicions of the authorities.
