Deaf and Blind Dog Rescued by Good Samaritan and Reunited with Family

A heartwarming story unfolded this week as a 14-year-old deaf and nearly blind dog was rescued and reunited with his family. The dog, named Fendy, managed to escape from his Oklahoma home on January 13, braving a snowstorm and freezing temperatures for 9 miles before finding solace near a creek bed. Stillwater Animal Welfare, a local organization dedicated to animal welfare, shared the remarkable story on their social media page.

It was on Tuesday that a Good Samaritan stumbled upon Fendy, who was frozen to the ground. Determined to help, she carefully warmed the old pup and successfully freed him from his icy trap. Understanding the urgency of the situation, she promptly took Fendy to Oklahoma State University’s Veterinary Medical Hospital, where the brave canine began his journey to recovery. Eventually, Fendy was transferred to the Stillwater Animal Shelter.

Fortunately, the heartwarming tale didn’t end there. On Thursday, Fendy’s worried owner visited the Stillwater Animal Shelter, hoping to find her beloved pet. Thankfully, she provided an accurate description of Fendy, and the two were joyfully reunited.

The dedicated team at Stillwater Animal Welfare expressed their gratitude towards the Good Samaritan, emphasizing the importance of taking action when encountering animals in need. “We are so grateful a Good Samaritan found him and took action, instead of leaving an innocent animal behind,” they stated.

A Chance Encounter

Karma Tucker, the Good Samaritan responsible for saving Fendy, shared her incredible experience with KFOR News. Tucker, who was out capturing the beauty of nature through her lens, stumbled upon the motionless dog. At first glance, she feared the worst, as Fendy’s back legs were frozen in an icicle, and he didn’t respond until she touched him.

Tucker expressed her belief that timing played a crucial role in Fendy’s survival. “I think that if I had not been there, twenty minutes later he would not have made it at all. His body was so still. He was an icicle,” she told KFOR News. She further added, “It is so crazy he survived that.”

A Happy Reunion

The heartwarming story of Fendy’s rescue and recovery reached its climax when Tucker saw a photo of the dog reunited with his family. Overwhelmed with emotions, she expressed that her efforts were undoubtedly worthwhile. Tucker affirmed that she would willingly repeat the rescue mission if the need arose.

Unfortunately, Fendy did not have a microchip, which would have facilitated an easier reunion with his family. The Stillwater Animal Shelter advocates for pet owners to consider microchipping their beloved animals, ensuring their safe return in such situations.
