Polk County Shooting Incident Leads to Five Arrests

Polk County, located in Texas, was the site of a tragic shooting incident on January 2. The incident resulted in the arrest of five individuals on various charges, including murder. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at a residence in the Kickapoo Marina Subdivision late that evening.

Details of the Shooting Incident

At approximately 11:25 p.m., deputies arrived at the scene after receiving a call from a third-party witness. The caller reported that two individuals had been shot at the residence. Upon their arrival, detectives spoke with the homeowners, William Schultea and Britney Campbell, both residents of Livingston.

During their search of the premises, the detectives made a grim discovery. They found the lifeless body of James Michael McClanhan, a 50-year-old resident of Livingston, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Additionally, a subsequent search warrant executed at the residence revealed a significant quantity of drugs.

Additional Findings and Investigation

Further investigation into the incident revealed that William Schultea, along with two other suspects, Derrek Hughes and David Stimmell, had also sustained gunshot wounds. Hughes and Stimmell were located later that night and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Another suspect, Steven Davis, was apprehended at a later time.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Texas Rangers, managed to identify several witnesses who provided valuable information regarding the suspects involved in the shooting.

Charges and Arrests

As a result of the investigation, David Stimmell was charged with murder, tampering with evidence, and violating a protective order. He was subsequently booked into the Polk County Jail, with total bonds exceeding $1 million.

Steven Davis faced charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, with four counts in total. His bonds amounted to over $90,000. Britney Campbell, on the other hand, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was able to post bail for $30,000.

Warrants were issued for William Schultea, charging him with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance. Derrek Hughes was also the subject of warrants, which included charges of parole violation, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and failure to identify as a fugitive.

The arrests made in connection with this shooting incident serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
