Tragic Pitampura Fire Incident Claims Six Lives in Delhi

The death toll in the devastating Pitampura fire incident in Delhi has tragically risen to six, according to the latest update from the police on Friday. The victims include four women and two men, as confirmed by the authorities.

The deceased individuals have been identified as Rakesh Gupta (62), his daughter Shweta (30), and his wife Renu Gupta (62). Additionally, Santosh (25), Kirti (25), and Shanu Verma (27) also lost their lives in the tragic incident.

The Maurya Enclave Police Station has registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 285, 336, and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code, highlighting the seriousness of the incident.

On Thursday evening, a fire engulfed a residential building located in the Pitampura area of northwest Delhi. The blaze resulted in the evacuation of six individuals, who were promptly rescued by the fire service. However, the unfortunate turn of events unfolded when all six evacuees succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The victims, comprising of four females and two males, were declared deceased later in the medical facility. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported during the incident, as confirmed by North West Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jitendra Meena during a press briefing on Thursday.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with possibilities ranging from an electrical short circuit to other potential reasons. It is worth noting that all the deceased individuals were tenants residing in the residential building. The structure featured multiple floors, accommodating tenants from diverse backgrounds. Legal action will be taken in response to this tragic incident, as emphasized by the DCP.

Delhi Fire Service official SK Dua reported, “We received information about a fire at a house in the Pitampura area. Seven fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Six people were successfully evacuated by the fire service.” The fire service’s prompt response and efforts unfortunately could not save the lives of the victims.

In an unrelated incident, a devastating fire broke out at a house near the Gourkhede Complex in the Seminary Hills area of Nagpur on Friday, claiming the lives of two innocent children. The deceased children have been identified as seven-year-old Devas and two-year-old Prabhas, according to the Nagpur Police.

These tragic incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the need for heightened vigilance to prevent such unfortunate incidents from recurring.
