In Vancouver, a 21-year-old man named Meaz Nour-Eldin has been found guilty in the case of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of a teenager. This horrifying incident took place primarily in January 2019, where the victim was manipulated into engaging in prostitution for a period of two months.
The young victim, who suffered from violence, threats, and mistreatment, received only a small portion of the earnings. However, her suffering came to an end when she bravely reached out to the police in February 2020.
Following reports of underage girls being trafficked over several months, the Vancouver police initiated an investigation into the case in 2019. Justice Shelley Fitzpatrick, who presided over the court proceedings, emphasized the shocking level of mistreatment the victim had to endure.
Recognition for the Victim’s Courage
Constable Tania Visintin from the Vancouver police praised the victim’s bravery for coming forward and emphasized the vital role played by support services throughout the ongoing court process. Visintin also took the opportunity to encourage other victims of human trafficking to seek assistance.
The perpetrator, Meaz Nour-Eldin, has a criminal history that includes assault and drug trafficking. Interestingly, he was already facing charges in Ontario for trafficking a 22-year-old woman, to which he eventually pleaded guilty.
In addition to Nour-Eldin, two other individuals were implicated in this case, including another young offender. The investigation also resulted in a Canada-wide warrant for Nour-Eldin and Vyizigiro, with authorities searching for witnesses to assist with the proceedings.
