11 Dead in Landslides in Monkayo and Maragusan, Davao de Oro
Metro Manila, January 20 – Recent rainfall in Davao de Oro has caused devastating landslides in the towns of Monkayo and Maragusan, resulting in the tragic deaths of eleven individuals. Tragedy Strikes in Barangay Mt. Diwata
The municipal government of Monkayo confirmed that the death toll in Barangay Mt. Diwata has risen to ten, with three more bodies being recovered during search and rescue operations. The victims have been identified as Ritchell Reboldad, aged 35, Agnes Bitoon, aged 44, and Elvera Saldua, aged 35.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Tandik, Maragusan, Mayor Lito Cabalquinto reported the death of a 23-year-old miner named Kayle Dacer Muñoz. It took eighteen hours to recover his body.

A Devastating Loss for the Gumatin Family
The tragedy in Barangay Mt. Diwata struck during a religious gathering of the Assembly of God Church. The Gumatin family, who were attending the event, tragically lost their lives in the landslide. Five children, aged between 1 and 10 years old, along with their parents, perished. The remains of the family were recovered on Thursday, except for the father, Rommel, who is still missing. Additionally, one-year-old Amara Kate Delola sustained injuries during the incident.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that the flooding and landslides in the Davao Region have affected nearly 45,000 families, comprising over 187,000 individuals. The region is facing significant challenges in dealing with the aftermath of these natural disasters.
