Williamsburg Man Arrested After Standoff with SWAT Officers in Wayne County

RICHMOND, Ind. — A Williamsburg man was taken into custody following a tense standoff with SWAT officers in Wayne County earlier this week. The incident occurred in the 4700 block of Helm Road in Williamsburg on Wednesday morning after authorities received reports of an armed man barricading himself inside his residence and firing multiple rounds of gunfire following an altercation.

According to the Richmond Police Department (RPD), the SWAT team was dispatched to the scene at approximately 9 a.m. after receiving distress calls. Upon arrival, officers attempted to establish communication with the suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Shaun Fields. However, their efforts to negotiate were unsuccessful, leading them to focus on obtaining a search warrant due to Fields’ refusal to engage in dialogue.

With the assistance of SWAT Operators from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, RPD successfully apprehended Fields without any further incidents. He was then taken to the Wayne County Jail, where he faces preliminary charges of domestic battery involving a deadly weapon and communication-intimidation extortion/blackmail, both of which are felony offenses.
