Davenport Police Seek Public Assistance in Homicide Investigation

The Davenport Police Department has reached out to the public for help in solving a recent homicide case. The victims, identified as Brian L. Goodwin (44) and Amy M. Smith (44), were found deceased at the scene of a fire in Davenport, according to a news release by the police department.

The Davenport Police Department’s detectives have classified the deaths of Smith and Goodwin as homicides and are actively investigating the case, the news release states.

As the investigation continues, no further details were available as of late Thursday.

Discovery of Two Deceased Individuals at Fire Site

In the early hours of Tuesday, January 16, Davenport Police and Fire departments responded to a report of a structure fire in the 5200 block of North Division Street. Upon arrival, Davenport Fire crews observed moderate smoke emanating from an apartment and swiftly extinguished the fire. During the search of the apartment, firefighters tragically discovered the bodies of two individuals.

Given the suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire and the cause of deaths, the police department immediately initiated an investigation.

Prior to the fire incident, Davenport Police had received a call at approximately 11 p.m. on Monday, January 15, reporting a domestic disturbance at the residence. This call preceded the fire by a matter of hours.

Our Quad Cities News spoke with a neighbor who had been living in the area for over a year. According to the neighbor, they were the one who reported the fire but stated that they did not personally know the occupants of the residence. The neighbor mentioned observing different individuals occasionally entering and leaving the property.

According to a Davenport Calls for Service Report, several calls were made later that day regarding the location of the fire.

This investigation remains ongoing, and the authorities are actively seeking any information that could assist in solving this heinous crime. The Davenport Police Department encourages the public to come forward with any relevant details, no matter how insignificant they may seem, as it could be crucial in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
