Alleged Child Sexual Abuse Uncovered in Connection with Deadly Shooting in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have revealed that their investigation into a deadly shooting has uncovered alleged child sexual abuse. Nathan Martin, 33, was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 18, and has been charged with two counts of statutory sex offense and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor, according to CMPD.

The incident that led to the discovery occurred on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, in the 4000 block of Meadowridge Drive. Officers from CMPD responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. At the scene, they found a man and a woman, later identified as Brandy Cox, 36, who had been shot. Tragically, Cox was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the man, whose identity remains unknown, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

During their initial investigation, CMPD took a person of interest into custody, but did not release their identity. It was during the course of this homicide investigation that information about Nathan Martin came to light, leading to his arrest on charges unrelated to the shooting.
