Man Charged with Murder in Stabbing death of Lucinda Wright

Suspect Appears in Court and Waives Preliminary Hearing

LIMA — In a tragic incident that has left the community shocked, 76-year-old Lucinda Wright was found dead in her Mound Road residence on January 8th. Today, the man charged with her murder, 24-year-old Daniel Wood, appeared in Lima Municipal Court and made a pivotal decision.

During his probable cause hearing, Wood chose to waive his right to a preliminary hearing. As a result, his case has been bound over to the Allen County Common Pleas Court, where it will be considered by an upcoming session of the grand jury. Wood is currently being held in the Allen County jail under a $2 million bond, and Judge Richard Warren ordered that the bond be continued.

Charge and Potential Sentence

Daniel Wood faces a single count of murder, which is classified as an unclassified felony. The official complaint against him alleges that he caused the death of Lucinda Wright while committing the underlying felony offense of aggravated robbery. If convicted, Wood could face a maximum prison term of 15 years to life.

Lima police officers responded to a call shortly after 7 p.m. on January 8th, reporting a possible deceased person at 1840 Mound Road. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Lucinda Wright, who had sustained multiple stab wounds to her torso. The body was later transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

An extensive investigation by the police ultimately led them to Daniel Wood. He was located using Wright’s vehicle in the downtown Lima area, specifically near Market and Metcalf streets. Wood was taken into custody without incident.
