According to the Orlando Police Department, officers from their airport unit utilized a drug detection dog to conduct a sniff test on the luggage from the flight. Los Angeles is known to be a source city for drug trafficking, which prompted the officers to pay extra attention to the suitcases.

The drug detection dogs immediately alerted the officers to the presence of illegal drugs in two separate suitcases with the same name on them. The officers relayed a description of the suitcases to plain-clothes officers stationed at the baggage claim area.

As the officers watched, an unidentified man retrieved the bags from the luggage carousel and handed them over to another man, later identified as 31-year-old Jacque Jordan. Authorities intervened and stopped Jordan with the suitcases as he was heading towards the vehicle pick-up area.

When asked for consent to search the suitcases, Jordan gave his approval. The officers discovered that each suitcase contained 18 vacuum-sealed bags filled with a green leafy substance, later confirmed to be cannabis. The vacuum-sealed bags were cleverly disguised with sheets and towels wrapped around them.

In total, the authorities confiscated 36 vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis, weighing approximately 47.2 pounds. Jordan was promptly arrested and booked into the Orange County jail on charges of trafficking in more than 25 pounds of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to sell or deliver, and conspiracy to import cannabis into the state.

As of now, Jordan remains in jail with a bond set at $31,000. The confiscated cannabis has been packaged and entered into the Orlando Police Department’s property and evidence department.

It is important to note that the use, possession, and distribution of marijuana are illegal in Florida, except for medicinal purposes under strict regulations. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and keep communities safe.
