Norfolk Police Officer Involved in Shooting Incident Under Investigation

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The Virginia State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a shooting incident involving a Norfolk Police Officer.

On January 18, 2024, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Norfolk Police received a report of a suspicious person in the 100 block of E Little Creek Road. Responding officers arrived at the scene and encountered an individual brandishing a knife. The man aggressively approached the officer, prompting the officer to discharge their service weapon. In response, a security guard who was present also discharged their firearm.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Gary S. Solomon from Norfolk, was immediately transported to the hospital due to life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident. Unfortunately, Solomon succumbed to his injuries and passed away while receiving medical treatment.

The officer involved in the shooting will remain on administrative duty pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Thankfully, no law enforcement officers were injured during the altercation.
