The Initial Collision

As the morning commute was underway, a 2015 Chrysler 200 was traveling southbound on Bay Road, just south of Exit 83. Following closely behind was a 2016 Acura TL. For reasons yet to be determined, the Acura struck the rear of the Chrysler, causing both vehicles to abruptly react.

The Impact and Tragic Consequences

As a result of the collision, the Chrysler veered onto the median, while the Acura pulled onto the shoulder. Seemingly in shock or disoriented, the driver of the Acura exited the vehicle and began to cross the southbound lanes. Unfortunately, at that exact moment, a 2013 Toyota Sienna was also traveling southbound and collided with the Acura driver.

The victim, a 78-year-old man from Smyrna, tragically lost his life at the scene. Out of respect for his family, his identity is being withheld until they have been notified of this devastating news.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 28-year-old man from Dover, Delaware, along with his passengers – a 25-year-old woman from Camden, Delaware, and a 46-year-old woman from Newark, Delaware – were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Thankfully, they were later released after receiving medical care.

The driver of the Toyota, a 66-year-old woman from Laurel, Delaware, also required hospitalization but was subsequently treated and released. Fortunately, a 15-year-old girl who was also in the Toyota emerged from the accident unscathed.
