A 39-year-old man has been apprehended by authorities for allegedly abducting an 11-month-old infant in the Jaitpur area of southeast Delhi, as confirmed by officials today.

The child was safely returned to the police following the man’s wife handing him over, leading to the subsequent arrest of the accused from their residence.

According to the police, the motive behind the kidnapping was the accused’s desire to have a child of his own. The suspect has been identified as Naveen Mishra.

“On Wednesday, we received an urgent call via the Police Control Room (PCR) from a distressed woman reporting the kidnapping of her 11-month-old son. The complainant, who runs a beauty parlour in Jaitpur and has two children, stated that at approximately 8 pm on Wednesday, she instructed her eight-year-old daughter to take her brother outside the parlour for a short while. Shortly after, her daughter informed her that an unknown man had taken the toddler away on a motorcycle,” explained Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Rajesh Deo.

Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, the police identified an individual seen carrying the kidnapped child on a motorcycle. Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle was registered under a woman’s name.

Efforts to locate the suspect were intensified, but to their surprise, on Thursday at around 10:40 am, the man’s wife arrived at the police station to surrender the child.

Following the woman’s arrival, the police questioned her and subsequently arrested Mishra from their residence. During the interrogation, he confessed to kidnapping the child due to his yearning for parenthood, as disclosed by the officer.

Mishra, who works in the accounts department of a store in Noida, has no prior criminal record. “We are currently conducting further investigations into the case,” stated the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
