A pair of young men from Chicago are now facing several felony charges after a series of carjackings and armed robberies in the city’s affluent Gold Coast neighborhood. The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Demontae Watkins and 20-year-old Charles Benson, allegedly assaulted a woman as she was entering her vehicle on North State Parkway.

According to prosecutors, Watkins and Benson also attempted to steal a man’s car on north Astor Street. When their efforts proved unsuccessful, they proceeded to carjack a delivery driver on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The duo was apprehended approximately an hour after the carjacking incident on North Lake Shore Drive.

The charges filed against Watkins and Benson include vehicular hijacking, armed robbery, aggravated battery, and resisting arrest. Their initial court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
