Berbice man tragically killed in dog attack

Kaieteur News – A tragic incident occurred in Toopoo Village, Corentyne Berbice, as Latchmanen Permaul, a 64-year-old man known as ‘Blackboy’ from Hampshire, was mauled to death by three mixed-breed dogs on Tuesday morning.
According to Sandra Permaul, the victim’s 61-year-old wife, her husband had visited a liquor shop in Topoo on Monday afternoon. After consuming alcohol, he encountered difficulties while returning home, and eventually found himself sleeping on the ground at a street corner. It was around 5:00 am on Tuesday when Sandra received news that her husband was lying on the street corner, and three Pit Bull dogs emerged from a nearby fence and viciously attacked him.

Police officers who examined the body discovered dog bite marks on both legs, the neck, right hip, and hand. Latchmanen Permaul’s lifeless body was urgently taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death upon arrival.
A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Skeldon Public Hospital’s Mortuary by Dr. Brijmohan. The cause of death was determined to be shock and hemorrhage, along with multiple lacerations.
The owner of the dogs, a 35-year-old resident of Topoo Village, was arrested and taken into custody at the Albion Police Station for further investigations.
