The incident occurred at a convenience store when the suspect, armed with a handgun, was in the middle of robbing the store clerk. The West Covina Police Department revealed that the entire incident was captured on the store’s security cameras and took place on January 17.

The surveillance footage shows the suspect, later identified as Ramon Gonzalez, approaching the counter of a local 7-Eleven convenience store and requesting a pack of cigarettes from the clerk. In a shocking turn of events, the suspect lifts his sweatshirt, revealing the firearm he had concealed, and demands that the employee open the cash register. Frightened, the clerk obeys the suspect’s demands and starts putting money into a plastic bag.

Just as the suspect was about to leave with the stolen cash, West Covina Police Sgt. Hernandez casually enters the 7-Eleven. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the employee quickly alerts Sgt. Hernandez about the ongoing robbery. Reacting swiftly, Sgt. Hernandez draws his service weapon and pursues the suspect as he attempts to flee the scene.

After a brief chase, the suspect is apprehended by Sgt. Hernandez. A subsequent search of Gonzalez uncovers a loaded firearm and approximately $400 taken from the 7-Eleven store. The 48-year-old is promptly taken into custody and now faces charges of robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon.

This incident marks the second time in less than a week that a uniformed law enforcement officer has inadvertently walked into a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles County while an armed robbery was taking place. On January 13, security cameras at a 7-Eleven in Carson captured L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy Luis Cisneros entering the store to purchase a drink just as four armed suspects were attempting to rob two clerks at gunpoint.

In recent times, there has been a surge in robberies targeting 7-Eleven stores across Los Angeles and Long Beach. However, authorities have not confirmed whether they believe these incidents are connected. The police are actively investigating these robberies to determine if there is any link between them.
