Annapolis Resident Surrenders to Police in Connection to Fatal Hit-and-Run

Annapolis resident, John Kaii-Ziegler, aged 64, has turned himself in to the police several months after being identified as a suspect in the death of 73-year-old Zarko Paruza in January 2023.

The incident occurred on January 24, 2023, shortly after 10 p.m. in the unit block of Hilltop Lane. Paruza was riding his bike when he was tragically struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene after the collision.

Thanks to the assistance of witnesses, investigators from the Anne Arundel County Police Department were able to identify a suspicious vehicle that was parked in the neighborhood the following morning. This valuable information led the detectives to John Kaii-Ziegler.

On January 12, Kaii-Ziegler was indicted by a jury in Anne Arundel County on multiple charges, including negligent manslaughter, criminally negligent manslaughter, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, driving under the influence of alcohol, DWI, reckless driving, negligent driving, and causing injury to an individual as a result of operating a vehicle.

On January 18, Kaii-Ziegler voluntarily surrendered at the Annapolis Police Department. He was then taken to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center for an initial court appearance. Currently, he is being held without bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center.
