55-Year-Old Farmer Fatally Shot in Banka District

PATNA: In a shocking incident, a 55-year-old farmer was shot dead and another was severely injured in a firing incident at Mainma village in Banka district on Thursday. The injured farmer, identified as Vikas Das from Budua village, is currently in stable condition at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur.

According to the police, the victim, Baleshwar Das, was shot while he was irrigating his field. The incident occurred between 6am and 8am. Upon hearing the gunshots, Baleshwar’s family and local villagers rushed to the scene and found him dead, while Vikas was crying out in pain.

The villagers immediately informed the police and rushed Vikas to a referral hospital in Amarpur. He was later transferred to Bhagalpur for further treatment. Amarpur station house officer, Vinod Kumar, stated that Baleshwar was shot in the head, while Vikas sustained a bullet wound to his chest. Vikas’ condition has stabilized after the bullet was successfully removed from his body.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the shooting may be linked to an old enmity over a land dispute involving the deceased. However, the family members have not provided any specific names or suspects at this time. The forensic and dog squad teams have inspected the crime scene and collected samples for further analysis.

The body of Baleshwar Das has been sent to Banka Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
