The initial collision involved a Nissan Rogue and a Toyota Rav4. The Nissan vehicle failed to yield to the Toyota at the intersection, resulting in a collision, as reported by the Plainfield police.

Tragically, a 12-year-old girl was a passenger in the Nissan at the time of the accident. In an attempt to escape from the crash scene, she exited the vehicle and started running. However, her escape was cut short when she was struck by a Ford Fusion traveling northbound on Route 59.

The young girl was immediately rushed to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital, and later transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital. Regrettably, she was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The victim has been identified as 12-year-old Gianna Lamb from Plainfield, Illinois.

Following the incident, both Route 59 and Riverwalk Court were temporarily closed for several hours while the authorities conducted their investigation. These roads have since been reopened, as per the statement released by the local police.

Interestingly, all three vehicles involved in the crashes were driven by members of the nearby Community Christian Church, according to Pastor John Ciesniewski. The accidents occurred after a StuCo Celebration Service, added Ciesniewski, shedding light on the unfortunate timing of the incident.
