Trichy witnessed a heart-wrenching incident on Tuesday as a 16-year-old boy tragically drowned in the Cauvery river at Mukkombu. The young victim, identified as M Balamurali from Ramachandra Nagar in Edmalaipattipudhur, met with this unfortunate incident while accompanying his relatives for a trip to the river.

According to the Vathalai police, while his relatives were enjoying a bath in the river, Balamurali, who had no knowledge of swimming, ventured into the water. Unfortunately, he unintentionally stepped into a deeper area and found himself stuck near the eastern side of culvert number 38.

As he struggled for help, locals and his relatives rushed to his aid and managed to pull him out of the water. However, it was too late, and he was immediately rushed to the government hospital in Srirangam. Tragically, he was declared dead upon arrival.

Following the necessary procedures, the postmortem was conducted, and the boy’s body was handed over to his grief-stricken family members on Wednesday. This incident has left the entire community in a state of shock and mourning.
