Tragic Accident Claims Life of Tow Truck Driver in LaGrange County, Indiana

LaGrange County, Indiana – In a devastating incident on Thursday morning, a tow truck driver lost his life after a crash on the Indiana Toll Road. The Indiana State Police reported the unfortunate incident that occurred in LaGrange County.

According to the authorities, the accident took place around 9:40 a.m. at mile marker 114.2. Prior to the crash, cleanup crews were diligently working to clear a diesel spill and remove a semi-truck from the center median, which had crashed earlier that day.

Tragically, a white Dodge Ram towing an enclosed trailer, traveling eastbound, lost control. The Dodge crossed the median and collided with a parked tow truck situated on the inside shoulder of the westbound lanes. The impact of the collision not only affected the tow truck but also struck the tow truck driver and the semi-truck involved in the earlier crash.

The tow truck driver, identified as Martin Troyer, a 63-year-old resident of Sturgis, Michigan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, an employee of the remediation company, responsible for cleaning the diesel spill, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Poor weather conditions, including snow, contributed to slippery roads at the time of the tragic accident. Indiana State Police suspect that the driver of the Dodge, a 31-year-old man from New York, was traveling at an excessive speed given the prevailing weather conditions.

Indiana State Police have taken charge of the investigation and will furnish all relevant details to the LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.

Following the crash, the left lane of westbound traffic was temporarily restricted. However, the lane was reopened at approximately 1:45 p.m., allowing the smooth flow of traffic.
