A man has been apprehended in Delhi’s Burari area for the alleged rape of a minor girl, the daughter of his live-in partner, as reported by PTI, citing information provided by the police. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Ankit from Loni in Ghaziabad, is a professional driver. The incident is said to have occurred on July 23 last year when the woman had left her children at home and went to the hospital. Ankit allegedly threatened the 14-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her.

A senior police officer revealed, “It has been alleged that Ankit took advantage of the unsupervised children to commit the heinous act. He not only threatened the girl but has also reportedly committed similar acts in the past.”

The mother of the victim promptly reported the incident to the police, resulting in immediate legal action being taken. The survivor underwent a medical examination and counseling, and her statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was recorded. The accused, Ankit, was apprehended and subsequently sent to judicial custody.

According to the filed FIR, the woman had three children from her previous marriage. She had separated from her husband eight years ago and has since been involved in a live-in relationship with Yadav.

Ankit, the accused, has been arrested and incarcerated. The police have registered a case against him under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
