UPDATE: Billings Police Department Issues Official Statement on Assault with a Weapon Investigation and SWAT Activation

UPDATE (01/17/24 @ 5:00 p.m.) – The Billings Police Department (BPD) has released an official statement regarding the assault with a weapon investigation and SWAT activation that took place on Wednesday morning.

According to BPD, officers responded to a weapons complaint at a residence on Lewis Avenue in the 800 block at approximately 8:57 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17. The officers were informed that a subject had barricaded himself within the residence and was armed with an edged weapon.

Upon arrival, the BPD officers quickly ensured the safety of the victims and evacuated them from the residence. However, the subject remained barricaded in a room and refused to comply with the officers’ commands.

In response to the situation, the BPD SWAT team, along with the assistance of a drone and negotiators, was called to the scene. The officers established contact with the suspect and worked towards a resolution to peacefully resolve the situation.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Isaiah Little Light, surrendered without incident at approximately 11:45 a.m. He was subsequently transported to the Yellowstone Detention Facility.

Little Light is now facing multiple charges, including two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of misdemeanor assault, one count of criminal mischief, and one count of resisting arrest.

BILLINGS, Mont. – Billings Police and SWAT Team Respond to Barricaded Subject on Lewis Avenue

On Wednesday morning, the Billings Police Department and the SWAT team were activated in response to a barricaded subject located on the 800 block of Lewis Avenue.

Sgt. Jeff Stovall stated that the police were called to the scene following a report of an assault with a weapon. Upon arrival, the officers were able to safely evacuate all individuals present in the home, except for the suspect.

The suspect refused to comply with the officers’ commands and remained inside the residence. After approximately two hours, the police successfully removed the suspect from the home without any further incident.

Sgt. Stovall also mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.

The Billings Police Department would like to extend their appreciation to the responding agencies and the public for their cooperation and for staying away from the active scene.
