Accident – death – Obituary News : Indiana State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on Indiana Toll Road
LaGrange County, Indiana – The Indiana State Police (ISP) are conducting an investigation into a tragic crash that occurred on Thursday morning on the Indiana Toll Road, resulting in the death of one person. The incident took place at approximately 9:40 a.m. when a pickup truck, driven by 31-year-old Umidjon Abduazizov, lost control while crews were working to clean up a separate crash north of Shipshewana.

According to authorities, the pickup truck sideswiped a tow truck before colliding with both the tow truck driver and a vehicle involved in the previous crash. Tragically, the tow truck driver, identified as 63-year-old Martin Troyer, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual assisting with the cleanup efforts sustained injuries, but fortunately, they are not believed to be life-threatening.
The Indiana State Police have determined that speed played a significant role in the crash. Additionally, the road conditions were slippery due to snowfall at the time of the incident. These factors likely contributed to the loss of control and subsequent collision.
In response to the crash, the Indiana State Police closed the left, westbound lane of the Indiana Toll Road for investigation purposes. The closure remained in effect until approximately 1:45 p.m. during which authorities meticulously examined the scene. Once the investigation concludes, all relevant information will be handed over to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office for further review.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of exercising caution and adhering to speed limits, especially in adverse weather conditions. Motorists must remain vigilant and mindful of their surroundings to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
