In a heartbreaking turn of events, a five-year-old boy from Malegaon, identified as Mohammad Kaif, who had been missing since January 7, was found dead in a forest area near Chandwad on Tuesday morning. The post mortem report revealed that the boy was smothered to death, and it is believed that he passed away two to three days ago.

The incident came to light when the boy’s father, Atiq Ahmed, a powerloom worker residing in the Naya Islampura area of Malegaon, lodged a police complaint after his son went missing. The Ayeshanagar police of Malegaon registered an FIR under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to Ahmed’s complaint, on January 7, he had returned home from work during lunchtime. After having lunch with his son Kaif and three daughters, Ahmed went back to work at around 2pm. However, at 6.30pm, one of his daughters went to his workplace and informed him that Kaif was nowhere to be found. Ahmed and other family members immediately started searching for Kaif, but their efforts were in vain. The following day, on January 8, Ahmed registered a complaint at the Ayeshanagar police station.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, some people grazing cattle on the hills along Rahud ghat, within the jurisdiction of the Chandwad police station, discovered the lifeless body of a young boy. They immediately informed the police patil of the Rahud village, who then reported the matter to the Chandwad police station. The location where the body was found is approximately 40km away from Malegaon.

A senior police officer confirmed that the deceased child was indeed Mohammad Kaif, and the post mortem examination indicated that he had been smothered to death. The report also revealed that he had suffered a blow to the head and had a shallow cut on his neck, likely caused by a sharp weapon. Malegaon deputy superintendent of police, Pushparaj Suryawanshi, stated that one man has been detained and is currently being questioned. The police are hopeful that more clarity will emerge as the investigation progresses.
